Measuring RIM Performance
Implementing a strategic plan provides direction and momentum, prioritizes activities to make the most of limited resources, and raises the visibility of RIM. But if you don’t plan to measure the performance of your RIM strategy, how will you know if it is delivering the promised results?
Performance measurement is an important, but often neglected, part of strategic planning. By including performance measurement in the strategic planning process, you can ensure your RIM initiatives deliver the intended results, correct problems before they have a major impact, and improve your communications and reputation with senior management.
Join me to briefly review the strategic planning process and then explore a multi-step process for designing and implementing performance measurement as part of any RIM strategic initiative. We’ll also review some RIM performance measurement examples and discuss the most important success factors for RIM performance management.
Sheila Taylor, CRM, IGP, CIP
Since establishing Ergo Information Management Consulting in 1999, Ms. Taylor has successfully assisted dozens of organizations in many industries/sectors to assess and benchmark their RIM practices and develop information asset management strategies. She has also assisted many organizations to plan, audit, expand, and/or rejuvenate RIM Programs to ensure alignment with corporate direction, meet business needs, minimize risk, and satisfy legislated/compliance and other requirements.
Ms. Taylor has presented more than 90 education sessions/webinars at ARMA International, ARMA Canada Region, and other conferences. In addition to teaching RIM at the college and university levels in Canada, she facilitated several sessions of AIIM’s Electronic Records Management, Enterprise Content Management, and Modern Records Management certificate programs.
An active member of ARMA International at the chapter, region, and international levels, Ms. Taylor currently serves on ARMA International’s Certification Oversight Committee and its Content and Standards Development Committee. She is also a member of the Standards Council of Canada’s mirror committee for International Organization for Standardization Technical Committee 46 on Information and Documentation (ISO/TC 46).
